BOOK OF BLACK COINS
Short Docuentary Film, 14' 30'', 2011-2020

BOOK OF BLACK COINS, Film Still

The film features characters that are singing and begging for money in a bank during a sleepless night in Berlin. They try to work out how to squeeze a penny out of people coming to the bank for cash. The film deals with issues conditioned by social and political circumstances that we can’t always control. It’s all about people on the low end of the scale trying to survive. What it points at is the people you don’t see, the real criminals, big bankers, the people who really control all the levers of power.

The film is shot in an observational documentary style.  At the center of the approach lies a realistic portrayal of the personalities of flesh-and-blood human beings. This process involves capturing serendipitous moments, spontaneity, direct contact with experience, as well as close and intimate involvement with the living reality of the subjects. Filming occurs without interruption or additional changes to capture an authentic organic experience from a given situation. Lives driven by circumstances, the marginality of the characters, social issues, and the actuality of events form the core of the documentary practice.
