In a forested area near La Chartreuse de Neuville nestled in the town of Neuville-sous-Montreuil in northern France, trees fall down with chalkstone present in their root system. Chalkstone, a soft and porous limestone, was the primary construction material used in the 14th century for La Chartreuse de Neuville. The region is also known for its local chalk deposits. While chalkstone, composed mainly of calcium carbonate, does provide nutrients for fungal growth, its porous nature also contributes to moisture retention, creating a favorable environment for fungal colonization.

As part of an extensive exploration into the natural interplay and coexistence of organisms within a human-constructed habitats,  the series centers around the natural areas in close proximity to the restoration site of La Chartreuse de Neuville. It primarily delves into the main material of the site, chalkstone, while also highlighting the surrounding soils and addressing the emergence and continuous mitigation of dry rot (La Mérule Pleureuse) within the building. The series comprises a collection of 8 photographs capturing fallen trees and an installation featuring 3D-scanned roots.
